Green Champions is FRP’s ambitious and inclusive volunteering project

Building on our skillset, our network and not least our deep commitment to social and environmental challenges, Green Champions seeks to build a bridge between everyone in the community and growing a green sector.

Green Champions offers volunteering opportunities for local people.  Together, we are increasing our positive environmental impact and engaging more people in environmental work.  We are able to offer support, encouragement and training to participants.  It is a very inclusive programme and we are able to work with people who need extra support.

The Green Champions Programme has been made possible through generous funding from The National Lottery Community Fund since 2022. Over this time, more than five hundred participants have taken part in our workshops and volunteering activities, contributing to a significant positive environmental impact.

We are pleased to announce that The National Lottery Community Fund has awarded further funding, enabling FRP to continue delivering the Green Champions initiative for an additional five years. The next phase of the project is scheduled to begin in January 2026.

Patch and Repurpose continues with North London Waste Authority Community Funding, with workshops teaching people to sew in Walthamstow and Edmonton.  You can find out more about this here

Our retail, tool library and events work continue, and we really appreciate everyone’s support with these.

We hope to do more in future and we are seeking more funding.

If you would like to hear more as soon as we have anything to share, and to follow FRP’s work more widely, please make sure that you are registered for our FRP email newsletters as we will send all news out there first.  You can also follow us on social media.

The National Lottery Community Fund awards a new grant for FRP’s Green Champions work

Forest Recycling Project (FRP) is delighted to announce that it has been awarded new funding by The National Lottery Community Fund Reaching Communities grants to continue and expand its Green Champions work for the next five years.

Championing Biodiversity will be a new, ten-week carpentry programme focussed on supporting biodiversity and nature, whilst developing skills in a small group setting.

Patch and Repurpose will be a new, improved, ten-week sewing and textiles programme in a small group setting.

Walthamstow and Palmers Green Tool Libraries will continue their tool lending and we will be able to plan for and open a third tool library in the community in 2026.

There will be a wide range of ways for people to get involved and participate.  We will let people know through the FRP website, FRP email newsletters and FRP social media (Instagram and Facebook).

FRP’s Green Champions work is an inclusive, supportive, and transformative training and volunteering initiative, previously made possible with a National Lottery Community Fund grant.  Over the past five years, more than 500 local residents have taken part in training, skill-building, and environmental volunteering activities. The vast majority of participants have reported significantly improved wellbeing, strengthened confidence, as well as progress toward personal and professional goals.

Building on our existing expertise and strong community networks, the programme will continue to welcome people from all backgrounds, including people who may benefit from additional support.  Participants will have the opportunity to develop practical skills across a range of environmental disciplines, including carpentry using reclaimed wood linked to nature-based projects, gaining knowledge of the textile waste industry and learning innovative methods for reusing and repurposing textile materials, and supporting tool sharing in the community through tool libraries.

FRP is grateful to The National Lottery Community Fund and to National Lottery players for making this next chapter possible.  Their continued support ensures that we can grow our impact, empower local people, and contribute meaningfully to environmental resilience and biodiversity in our community.  We are also very grateful to all of our supporters in the community, who enable our work to happen.
