Green Champions Foundation

is FRP’s ambitious and inclusive volunteering project

Green Champions Foundation volunteering - we all need to start somewhere.

The Green Champions Foundation Programme is completely dedicated to new volunteers who are in need of some wellbeing support. We welcome adult volunteers in supported and sociable sessions which are designed to increase confidence, and positive mental well-being. It is ideally suited for people who might feel isolated or anxious and want to contribute to their community.

Together, we are increasing our positive environmental impact and engaging more local people. We give support, encouragement, and training to participants. It is very inclusive and we can work with people who need extra support.

A newly structured Green Champions Foundation offers:

Green Champions Carpentry Foundation
(working with reclaimed wood)

Carpentry Foundation sessions:

Tuesdays 9.30 am-12:00 pm
and 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Green Champions Textiles Foundation
(working with reclaimed fabrics)

Textile Foundation sessions:

Wednesdays 10 am-12.30 pm
and 1.30pm - 4.00pm

Sessions take place in our Office-Workshop place at 2C Bakers Ave, E17 9AW

A little bit about us:

We specialise in two main areas: textiles and carpentry.

What does the Foundation Programme look like?

Volunteers will attend supported, small group training once a week, for 2-3 hours, for a minimum of four and a max of 12 weeks. The sessions are adapted to the needs of the participants who will learn and share skills. Your mentor will provide set tasks which you can choose from and you will be encouraged to come up with your ideas.

Our mentors

We have two fantastic and very positive mentors running our Green Champions Foundation Programme. Greg runs the carpentry side and Penny, the textiles. They are both specialists in their fields and will help you to develop or gain new skills and knowledge.

What can you expect from us?

FRP will:
• treat all volunteers with respect and dignity - a Culture of Respect;
• provide appropriate tasks and level of supervision in relation to the volunteer needs;
• deal with concerns and complaints quickly and well;
• have regular contact and provide support to each volunteer, and monitor wellbeing;
• have policies and procedures in place, and support our staff, so we can support you and keep you safe;
• provide the PPE you require to carry out your role safely - and expect you to use it and ask if you have any questions;

Do I need any experience?

No, you don’t need any skills, but welcomed if you do
You will be taught basic techniques and anything else you need to know and the basic health & safety around the workshop.
If you don’t feel confident or comfortable with anything, you can speak with your mentor and work out what is the best way of moving forward.

What does the workshop look like?

We have a sewing and carpentry workshop and have a range of machines and hand tools, the materials are all reclaimed from the building and fashion industries. We create new products, extending their life and usefulness whilst reducing the co2 footprint and contributing to the circular economy.
