Reclaiming Fabric

The textile industry has a huge impact on the environment. The pollution caused by the manufacture of textiles and clothing is estimated to be responsible for over 20% of fresh water pollution and over 30% of plastic pollution in the world's oceans. Too many textiles then go to waste - often directly from factories and industry - causing pollution and greenhouse gases.

FRP reclaims fabric as part of our mission to protect the environment and divert surplus material away from incineration and landfill, and use it to inspire social change, and to make it available to the community.

Why we reclaim fabric

Reduce Waste and CO2 Emissions

It is estimated that of 400 billion m2 of fabric made every year, 60 billion m2 ends up on the cutting room floor. When disposed in landfill or by incineration, dyes and chemicals in fabric can leach into the soil, contaminating both surface and groundwater, and into the atmosphere. FRP offers an intervention in the chain of fabric production to reduce an impact on waste going to incineration and landfill, with associated pollution and unnecessary CO2 emissions.

Alternative end-of-life

Fabric surplus normally goes to incineration or landfill as waste. FRP offers an alternative by reclaiming fabric that would otherwise be considered waste and rehoming it. FRP furthermore offers volunteering opportunities where community members come together to learn about sustainability and gain new skills in working with fabric.

We work with local communities and residents, offering meaningful volunteering opportunities and skills sharing sessions to gain experience in the sustainability sector.
3

Step Three - Textiles for the local community
