Donate Tools to the Walthamstow Tool Library

Thank you for considering a donation to the Walthamstow Tool Library (WTL)! We appreciate your willingness to support our cause by giving your tools a second life instead of discarding them. By donating your unwanted tools and equipment, you help empower your local community as well as have a positive impact on the environment.

While we’re grateful for your generosity, our storage capacity is limited, and we already have over 500 tools in our inventory. For this reason, we can only accept tools that will be most useful to our community and align with our charity’s needs.

How to Donate:

If you believe you have tools that could benefit our library, please contact us via email at tools@frpuk.org with the following information:

  • Tool details (make, model)
  • Photos of the tool(s) and any additional parts
  • Answers to these questions:
    1. Is the tool in working condition?
    2. Is the tool complete? For example, if it’s a cordless tool, does it include the battery and charger? (These can sometimes cost more than the tool itself!)
    3. Is this a tool we might not yet have in our collection?
    4. Is it a significant upgrade from similar tools we currently own?
    5. Would it be beneficial for us to replace an existing tool with this one?
    6. Is the tool a valuable antique that could be sold to fund our programs for disadvantaged individuals?
    7. Is the tool listed on our wishlist below?

Please understand that if we are unable to accept your donation, it’s not out of ingratitude. Our aim is to ensure that every donation helps us further our mission and serve our community effectively.

Donations without prior approval cannot be accepted.

Please do not drop by during our opening hours to donate tools. Our volunteers are not authorized to accept donations without prior arrangement, and we’d prefer to avoid any awkward situations where they have to turn you away. Thank you for your understanding!

PS: We’ve included a list at the bottom of this page of other organizations that might be able to use tools we’re unable to accept.

Tools We Can’t Accept

Broken tools – While our repair team works wonders with our existing tools, they don’t have the capacity to fix additional items.

Large petrol-powered garden tools (rotavators, mowers) – These tools are bulky, heavy, and not environmentally friendly, so we’d prefer not to receive them.

Tools on Our Wishlist

Cordless drills

Sanders – Any type is welcome! Whether belt, orbital, mouse, or detail, if it’s in working condition, we’d love to have it.

Battery-powered tools – impacts, angle grinders, cordless LED work light, reciprocating saws, and other.

Battery-powered gardening tools – To support our environmental goals, we’re moving away from petrol-powered tools. Battery-powered alternatives are much appreciated.

Wallpaper steamers – We can always use more, as the heating elements tend to burn out quickly.

Stud finders – Like steamers, these are not always built to last but are in high demand.

Distance measurer – it’s a very useful tool especially for the flat refurbishment.

Carpet cleaners with upholstery attachments

Pressure washers – These are extremely useful and in high demand. If you have a spare, we’d love to take it.

Workshop equipment – We run a carpentry workshop on Bakers Avenue with various machinery. If you have professional-grade tools or equipment like table saws, band saws, or chop saws that could enhance our setup, please get in touch.

Antique tools – We acknowledge their value please send us the picture and description.
